Brockington College is a thriving 11–16 secondary school with places for 240 students in each year group and a total capacity of 1,200. We understand that choosing the right secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make, and we are committed to providing an excellent education and a supportive environment where every student can flourish.

We are proud of our long tradition of serving the communities of Enderby, Narborough (including Littlethorpe), Thurlaston, Huncote and Croft, and of the strong relationships we continue to build with our families and local community.

Admissions Arrangements

Joining the school at the beginning of Year 7

If you are currently in Year 6 and would like to join our school, please make your application before 31st October.  Applications must be made through the Local Authority in which you live. For Brockington College, this is usually Leicestershire County Council:

Joining the school in all other years or during Year 7

Brockington College manages its own “in year” admissions. “In year” (or Mid-Term) admissions for Brockington College is any admission that would take place after the start of the academic year in the Autumn to join the school during that same academic year.

Please note: a waiting list only exists for entry into Year 7 until the end of the Autumn Term in that academic year.

The school will aim to notify parents of the outcome of their application within 10 school days, but will notify in writing within 15 school days.

In the event the application is unsuccessful, there is the right to appeal. How big is Brockington College?

The school comprises 240 places in each year group, and a total capacity of 1200 students.

What time does school start and finish?

The school day starts at 8.30am and ends at 3.00pm.

Is there a dedicated school bus?

Andrews of Leicester operate private bus routes directly into Brockington College from Croft, Huncote, Thurlaston, Stoney Stanton and Sapcote, Thorpe Astley, New Lubbesthorpe and Leicester Forest East. Do you have a breakfast club?

Students who qualify for free school meals are invited, on an individual basis, to attend breakfast club each day, which runs from 7.45am.

What are the arrangements and break and lunchtime?

Brockington College provides an excellent catering service for students to purchase a variety of hot and cold meals at reasonable prices. Facilities are also available that allow students to bring packed lunches. However, in the interest of other students with nut allergies, it is essential that students do not include nuts or nut based products in packed lunches. For health and safety reasons glass bottles and fizzy/energy drinks are not permitted in school.

What will my child study at Brockington College?

Students follow a three-year Key Stage 3 and a two-year Key Stage 4 curriculum.  They choose options in year 9 and then study their GCSEs for two years, in order to allow them to focus on the specific skills and knowledge required to be successful at GCSE.

Alongside the core subjects of English, maths, science, religious studies and personal, social, health and citizenship education (PSHCE), all Key Stage 3 students have lessons in art, design technology (including food and nutrition), computing, drama, geography, history, music, PE and French.

All students take religious studies, spiritual reflection, and as part of their core studies to give them the broadest possible experience of the world around them.

How are classes composed?

Classes are composed in a variety of different ways, such as tutor groups, mixed tutor groups and academic sets.  Each subject has formatted their groups based on the best outcomes at GCSE and this may be different from what students experienced at primary school.  We acknowledge that students come from a range of schools and experiences, therefore, groups are reviewed on a regular basis.

How will I know about my child’s progress?

We report on your child’s progress and attitude to learning three times during the academic year.

In year 7, there is an opportunity for a ’settling in evening’ with form tutors, in early October,  to discuss how your child is settling to life at Brockington College.  At the end of the year, the more formal consultation evening with subject staff takes place.

What support do you have in place for students with special educational needs and disabilities?

We have a fully staffed and well-equipped SEND department, which provides support for students with social and emotional difficulties, academic needs and physical disabilities.

SEND staff work with subject staff to provide in-class support, to help to adapt materials for student use, to team teach in some subject areas and to deliver intervention programmes.  Our aim is to help to improve basic literacy and numeracy skills and to develop students’ independent work and life skills.
