Curriculum Vision

‘The curriculum and extra-curriculum offers are wonderfully rich, creative and tailored so students’ talents and interests are nurtured, including through vocational subjects. Combined with outstanding pastoral care, students grow into well-rounded young adults, confident in their unique identity.’

Key Stage 3

We know that students arriving in Year 7 come from primary schools with rich and varied curricula. At Brockington College, we build on that foundation by offering a curriculum both inside and outside the classroom that sparks curiosity, uncovers new talents and supports students to live life to the full. Rooted in our Christian vision and values such as compassion, perseverance, wisdom and respect, our curriculum enables every child to flourish academically, spiritually and personally, while preparing them to serve the common good.

In Years 7, 8 and 9, all students study a broad range of subjects. Core disciplines including English, mathematics, science and religious studies are central to our approach, ensuring excellent progress from the moment students arrive. Alongside these, we give students the chance to discover strengths and interests beyond the core, enabling character development, leadership and a growing awareness of their place in the world.

As part of our commitment to nurturing leadership and service, students also take part in the Archbishop’s Young Leaders Award (AYLA). This programme inspires them to develop resilience, teamwork and compassion, and challenges them to put their values into action by making a positive difference in their local community.

Every student also has dedicated curriculum time in:

  • Humanities (history and geography)

  • Modern foreign languages

  • Performing arts (music and drama)

  • Art

  • Computing and ICT

  • Design and technology

  • Personal, social, health and citizenship education (PSHCE)

  • Physical education

This broad and balanced curriculum is coherently planned and inclusive for all. It ensures that students are not only equipped with knowledge and skills, but also encouraged to reflect wisely, act with integrity and grow into compassionate, confident individuals who can live life in all its fullness.

Key Stage 4

At Brockington College, Key Stage 4 spans Years 10 and 11. This structure allows us to offer a broad and ambitious curriculum, giving students access to the widest possible range of subjects while also ensuring sufficient time for depth of study and meaningful enrichment.

All students study the core GCSE subjects of English, mathematics and science, and we also require all students to take Religious Studies as a full GCSE. We believe Religious Studies plays a vital role in supporting students’ spiritual development. It provides the opportunity to reflect on personal beliefs and values, to consider different worldviews, and to grow as thoughtful, compassionate and tolerant members of society.

In addition, we strongly encourage students to follow the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) pathway, which includes studying at least one of the humanities (history or geography) alongside a modern foreign language. We believe this combination provides a strong academic foundation and opens doors to future opportunities. At the same time, we recognise that every student is an individual with unique gifts, so we offer a wide range of additional academic and vocational qualifications. This allows students to design a programme of study that not only challenges them but also enables their talents to flourish.

Learning at Brockington goes far beyond the classroom. Students are encouraged to explore and develop their gifts through a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities. These include representing the school in numerous sports, participating in our thriving performing arts productions, and contributing to the creativity of our art department, which continues to enrich the school environment. Through these opportunities, students are supported to live life to the full and to flourish in every area of their development.
