The PE department at Brockington College brings together a wealth of experience and fresh expertise, united by a passion for developing a lifelong love of physical activity and sport in every student. Our specialist team is committed to improving students’ competence, performance and knowledge, while also promoting the school’s eight core values through everything we do.
At Key Stage 3, students enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum with two hours of high-quality PE each week in Years 7 and 8, and three hours across a fortnight in Year 9. The programme includes invasion games such as football, rugby, netball, hockey and handball; individual sports including dance, badminton, table tennis, gymnastics and athletics; and striking and fielding games such as rounders, cricket and bucket ball. A new theoretical fitness element has also been introduced to prepare students for the greater challenges of Key Stage 4.
At Key Stage 4, we offer two qualification pathways: GCSE PE (OCR specification) and Cambridge Nationals Sport Studies (OCR specification). Students are guided towards the course that best suits their strengths, talents and preferred learning style. Those not opting for a qualification continue with one core PE lesson each week, where the focus is on enjoyment, participation and trying new activities such as volleyball, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee and dodgeball.
Beyond lessons, Brockington offers a rich programme of extra-curricular activities. We are proud of our tradition of success, particularly in football and athletics, where our teams regularly excel in local leagues, national competitions, and regional athletics events. Students also have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, with Year 10 students able to achieve the Bronze Award, and to join the bi-annual ski trip run by the department.
Above all, PE at Brockington aims to inspire every student to lead an active, healthy lifestyle, to find enjoyment in sport and physical activity, and to carry these habits and values into life beyond school.
