Religious Studies at Brockington College is central to our vision of learning to live life to the full. It explores what people believe and how those beliefs shape the way they live, giving all students the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to respond to the big questions of life. In doing so, students are encouraged to reflect on their own ideas and values, and to develop as individuals who can flourish in modern society.
Key Stage 3
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum introduces students to the major faiths represented in the UK. Building on this foundation, we explore themes such as the problem of evil, encouraging learners to apply insights from a range of world views to ultimate questions that shape our lives. Students also have the opportunity to achieve The Archbishop’s Young Leaders Award (AYLA), a national programme that develops leadership, resilience and character. Through practical projects, teamwork and community service, students are inspired to make a positive difference in their local community, a reflection of our commitment to being deeply Christian, serving the common good.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA Religious Studies course (Specification A), focusing on Christianity while also engaging with philosophy through the study of Buddhism. Alongside religion, the course examines some of the most important ethical and philosophical questions of modern life, such as medical ethics and attitudes to crime. We encourage learners to consider different perspectives, to question deeply and to become thoughtful, empathetic and well informed individuals who are able to live well with others.
Beyond the Classroom
To enrich their learning, students visit Leicester Cathedral and Leicester Buddhist Centre, experiencing first hand how faith is expressed in real world contexts. Staff also run open revision sessions, and we regularly welcome external speakers who share key ideas and life experiences, helping students to connect their learning to the wider world.
Through Religious Studies, we seek to enable all to flourish by fostering curiosity, respect and empathy, and by equipping students to make a positive contribution to their communities as they learn to live life to the full.
