PE

The PE department at Brockington College combines extensive experience with fresh expertise, united by a clear vision: to foster a lifelong love of physical activity and sport in every student. Our specialist team is committed to developing students’ physical competence, performance, and theoretical understanding, while embedding the school’s eight core values throughout all aspects of PE.

Curriculum Intent and Implementation

Key Stage 3:
Students access a broad and balanced curriculum designed to build fundamental movement skills, tactical awareness, and personal development.

  • Time allocation: Two hours of high-quality PE per week in Years 7 and 8; three hours across a fortnight in Year 9.
  • Curriculum breadth:
    • Invasion Games: football, rugby, netball, basketball, handball
    • Individual Sports & Activities: tennis, badminton, table tennis, dance gymnastics, health & fitness, OAA and athletics
    • Striking and Fielding: rounders, cricket, softball

Key Stage 4:

  • Two qualification pathways: GCSE PE (OCR) and Cambridge Nationals Sport Studies (OCR).
  • Students are guided towards the course that best suits their strengths, talents and preferred learning style.
  • Non-exam students continue with one core PE lesson per week, including KS3 core sports plus additions:
    • Sports leadership
    • Officiating
    • Teaching games for understanding
    • Enrichment Block: Sports such as pickleball, futsal, trampolining, dodgeball, flag football and more.

Participation in PE and sport at Brockington College is exceptionally high, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and enjoyment. Students engage enthusiastically in a wide range of activities, with strong uptake across extra-curricular opportunities. Our extensive programme promotes participation for all, while also providing pathways for those who aspire to excel.

Our diverse offer ensures every student can find an activity they enjoy, fostering positive attitudes towards lifelong physical activity.

Brockington teams consistently achieve success in local leagues, regional athletics events, and national competitions, showcasing the high standards of performance our students reach.

Students also can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, with Year 10 students able to achieve the Bronze Award, and to join the bi-annual ski trip run by the department.
