PSHCE

PSHCE at Brockington College brings together Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education with Citizenship and Careers Education to provide a broad, balanced and purposeful programme of study.

As part of this, we deliver the statutory requirements for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), ensuring students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to navigate the pressures and challenges of modern society. RSE makes an important contribution to health and wellbeing, supporting young people’s ability to learn, achieve and flourish.

Our curriculum is designed to help all students learn to live life to the full and to prepare them for life beyond Brockington. It enables every student to flourish by developing the skills they need to achieve success and happiness while becoming active, responsible citizens in their communities and the wider world. Promoting wellbeing, respect for ourselves and others, and strategies to support positive mental health are central to everything we deliver.

PSHCE is taught through timetabled, hour long lessons, once a week at Key Stage 3 and once a fortnight at Key Stage 4. These lessons are led by a dedicated team of specialist teachers, ensuring that the subject is delivered with expertise, consistency and relevance. Learning is further enriched by external input such as workshops, extended assemblies and theatre productions, giving students access to a wide range of voices and experiences.

Through PSHCE, we aim to:

  • Develop responsibility and commitment so that students make the most of their abilities and become successful learners

  • Create confident young people with a strong voice, who are interested in the world around them and make a positive contribution to society

  • Enhance self worth and resilience, enabling students to adopt safe, healthy and fulfilling lifestyles

  • Promote strategies to support positive mental health and wellbeing

  • Encourage respect, empathy and understanding, preparing students to thrive as informed and responsible citizens of a diverse society
