SIAMS Report 2023
Brockington College is absolutely delighted to have been graded Excellent in its most recent SIAMS inspection (June 2023).
This is a tremendous achievement for our whole community and we could not be prouder. Our Church of England status and our Christian vision of learning to live life to the full shape everything we do at Brockington. To have this recognised by SIAMS is a powerful affirmation of our work and our purpose.
The inspectors captured this in their report, stating: “It is an excellent Church school because leaders make life changing decisions that transform lives.” This reflects the heart of Brockington College — a place where faith, learning and community come together to make a real difference.
We are especially thrilled that the report also recognises that “Living life to the full is a palpable vision which fuels leaders, staff and students to grow and learn together. Leaders at all levels harness the power of the life and teachings of Christ to make courageous decisions that improve students’ life chances.”
This outstanding judgement is not only a celebration of what has already been achieved but also an inspiration to continue shaping a school where every child can flourish, every member of staff is valued and our whole community thrives together.
All Church of England dioceses and the Methodist Church use the Church of England Education Office’s framework for the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) under Section 48 of the Education Act 2005.
SIAMS inspection focuses on the impact of the school’s Christian vision on students and adults. This involves looking at the school’s Christian vision, the provision the school makes because of this vision and how effective this provision is in enabling all pupils to flourish. Church schools will employ a variety of strategies and styles appropriate to, and reflective of, their particular context to be distinctively and effectively Christian in their character and ethos. SIAMS inspectors therefore do not look for a set template of what a Church school should be like, but rather take the particular context of the school into account and base their evaluation on the outcomes rather than the process.
The evaluation schedule has one inspection question: how effective is the school’s distinctive Christian vision, established and promoted by leadership at all levels, in enabling pupils and adults to flourish?
This is explored through seven strands:
One overall grade is awarded, reflecting the contribution of these strands to the flourishing of students and adults in a church school. In addition, a standalone grade is awarded in all schools for collective worship and in voluntary aided (VA) schools and former VA schools for religious education (RE). This grade is based on teaching and learning alone.
