At Brockington College, we believe every child is created with a God given identity, unique strengths and the ability to grow and thrive. Guided by our Christian vision of learning to live life to the full, we are committed to building a community where every student feels valued, understood and supported.
We aim for all students, including those with SEND, to develop the confidence, resilience and independence they need to navigate the modern world. We want them to experience success in the classroom, build positive relationships and flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Our approach is rooted in compassion, dignity and high expectations for every learner, so that each young person knows they belong and have an important place in our school family.
Our Approach
Great teaching is at the heart of everything we do. All teachers adapt their lessons so every student can access learning confidently. This includes:
-
Clear routines and structured lessons
-
Chunked instructions and modelled examples
-
Teaching key vocabulary in advance
-
Thoughtful seating arrangements
-
Visual aids, scaffolds and assistive technology
-
Regular checks to ensure learning is secure
These approaches are used across all subjects so that support is consistent and fully embedded into everyday classroom practice. They help students develop independence, organise their thinking and build resilience in their learning.
Working Together
We work in partnership with students, families and staff to understand needs early and respond quickly. Our Additional Needs Record (ANR) keeps teachers informed of each student’s profile and the strategies that help them thrive.
Where a student needs more personalised support, we may offer small group teaching, wellbeing sessions or regular contact with a trusted adult. When appropriate, we work with external professionals to ensure specialist advice informs our provision.
Pastoral and Wellbeing Support
Learning happens best when students feel safe and supported. Our pastoral team, chaplains and inclusion staff provide:
-
Emotional support and mentoring
-
Calm spaces such as The Bridge and The Chapel
-
Help with organisation, wellbeing and transitions
-
Access to specialist services where needed
These layers of support help students manage challenges, build resilience and develop healthy coping strategies for both school and life beyond it.
An Inclusive Community
We want every student to take part in the full life of the school, including lessons, enrichment, clubs, trips and leadership opportunities. When adjustments are needed, we work collaboratively to ensure students can participate, grow in independence and enjoy new experiences.
