Uniform and Equipment

Uniform can be purchased from our suppliers, Match Fit Kit.  Uniform ordered from Match Fit Kit will be delivered to your home address. Non branded items are available to purchase from a wide range of high street stores.

Match Fit Kit representatives will be present at the school from 3.15pm onwards on the day of the Year 6 Welcome Evening in July 2026, and will offer the opportunity to purchase items on site.  Representatives will be available to answer any queries you may have, or alternatively you can email them via sales@matchfitkit.com . They advise taking careful note of the measuring and sizing guidance on their website.

The governors’ policy on uniform must be followed by all students, and decisions on the suitability of uniform items and appearance rest with Brockington College. If you are ever in doubt about whether an item is appropriate, please contact the school for clarification before purchase. We ask parents and carers to work in partnership with us to uphold the uniform policy, ensuring that all students present themselves smartly and consistently.

Hairstyles should be suitable for school, avoiding unnatural colours or extreme styles. For students in Year 9 and above, make-up may be worn, but it must be discreet and appropriate for school. Heavy foundation, lipstick, false eyelashes, false nails or other obvious styles of make-up are not permitted.

Uniform plays an important role in promoting equality and inclusion. By wearing the same smart dress code, all students are reminded that they belong to one community where every individual is valued equally. This helps to reduce social pressures and ensures that every student can focus on learning and flourishing together. It also reinforces the idea of school as a workplace, preparing students for the expectations of future employment.

Students whose uniform does not meet expectations will be challenged. Where possible, the college will provide an alternative item of uniform to borrow for the day so that the student can continue their learning without interruption. In more serious or persistent cases, students may be placed in isolation until the matter has been addressed satisfactorily.

By working together, we can ensure that uniform is worn with pride and that students represent themselves and Brockington College positively, both in school and within the wider community.

Please see our uniform policy here Policies – Brockington College for a full list of uniform items.

PE uniform

If your child is unable to take part in a PE lesson, they must bring a written medical note explaining the reason. Without their kit or a valid medical note, we are unable to provide alternative provision. Like most secondary schools, our policy is that students who cannot participate practically are still expected to join their PE group, contribute where possible, and engage with the lesson by observing, listening to theory aspects, or assisting with tasks set by the teacher.

This policy also applies to outdoor lessons. For this reason, it is important that students bring a coat and suitable warm clothing so they can comfortably observe and contribute if lessons are held outside.

If your child has a medical reason for not participating practically in PE, please ensure they bring a signed note to their PE teacher on the day of their lesson. If your child has a medical condition that prevents participation over a longer period, please contact their PE teacher directly to discuss suitable arrangements that can be put in place in exceptional circumstances.

By following this approach, students remain part of their class, continue their learning, and maintain the high standards expected at Brockington College.

Equipment

At Brockington College, learning is at the heart of our vision and underpins all of our school values. Learning is not only about being taught, but also about discovering, questioning and developing understanding. To do this well, students must be prepared every day with the right tools to succeed.

The Bible reminds us: Wise men and women are always learning, always listening for fresh insights.” (Proverbs 18:15). With this in mind, we expect every student to arrive at school fully equipped and ready to engage in their lessons.

Students are required to bring the following items in their school bag each day:

  • Pencil case

  • Pencils (HB)

  • Pens (black and blue)

  • Clear ruler

  • Eraser

  • Scientific calculator (e.g. Casio)

  • Maths set (protractor and compass)

  • Set of unbranded earbuds or headphones (for music and computing lessons)

  • Glue stick (recommended extra)

  • Coloured pencils (recommended extra)

  • Highlighters (recommended extra)

To support families, pencil cases with the essential items (excluding a calculator) are available through ParentPay at a cost of £1.60 and will be delivered directly to students. Headphones, which are required only at Key Stage 3, are sold separately.

Equipment will be checked at the start of the school day and in every lesson. This ensures that students are always ready to learn, avoid unnecessary interruptions, and develop the habits of organisation and responsibility that are essential in the workplace. Being properly equipped is not just about school, it is preparation for life beyond Brockington College, where reliability and readiness are highly valued.

Mobile phones

Students may bring a mobile phone to school, but this is entirely at their own risk. Mobile phones must be switched off and stored securely in lockers throughout the school day. They must not be carried around or used during lessons, social times or whilst moving between classes.

Mobile phones and social media can be a major distraction, preventing students from concentrating fully on their learning. They can also have a negative impact on wellbeing, communication and relationships. For this reason, if a phone is seen or heard during the school day, it will be confiscated and can only be collected by a parent or carer from the school office.

Students must not use their phones to contact parents or carers during the school day. If there is an urgent need to get in touch, students should speak with their form tutor, pastoral manager or another member of staff, and contact will be made through the school office. Similarly, if parents or carers need to urgently reach their child, they should phone the school directly.

By keeping phones and social media away during the day, students are free from unnecessary distractions, focused on their studies and able to take full advantage of every learning opportunity. This helps them to make the most of their time at Brockington College and prepares them for responsible use of technology in later life.
